HDP SEW Digital Book Sewing Machine

EQUIPMENT INTRODUCTION

The HDP SEW Digital Book Sewing Machine is a modular book block production system consisting of the HDP200 Digital Collating Feeder and a high-speed thread sewing unit. It integrates sheet feeding, creasing, folding, collating, signature forming, and sewing into a continuous inline workflow for digital, offset, and hybrid production. The HDP200 processes both loose sheets and pre-folded signatures from systems such as a Dynamic Folder, performing creasing, folding, and saddle-style collating before sewing and continuously supplying assembled signatures to the sewing station, eliminating waiting time at the sewing unit. The feeding section handles formats up to 390 × 500 mm via a sheet separation head, suction drum, and two pairs of driven cylinders. Sheets are registered on a double ball-bearing alignment table, with double-sheet or empty-sheet detection via Pepper & Fuchs ultrasonic sensors and sequence control via an Omron vision system reading Barcodes or Data Matrix codes. The creasing unit applies depth according to paper properties, followed by a saddle folding station producing 4-page signatures or processing pre-folded signatures. Transport is controlled by adjustable belt systems with braking, and fold accuracy is checked in a pressing station. A synchronized conveying system then performs saddle-style gathering and transfers signatures to the sewing saddle via a feeder wheel. Before sewing, a deceleration and alignment system positions each signature, and the thread sewing head produces a sewn multi-signature book block. The HDP200 can be used inline with sewing or saddle stitching systems, or as a standalone collating unit for books, manuals, catalogs, and similar products, while the sewing unit can also operate independently as a thread sewing machine.
